Family Movie Night

This is the true story of the four-year old son of a small-town pastor who experienced heaven during emergency surgery. The father struggles to determine whether his son’s experience was a hallucination or genuine. Pizza and brownies will be served by the Respect Life Subcommittee.

We will be discussing our December caroling service project, Praying the Rosary with Pope Francis (books will be available for those who did not receive one), and Faith Sharing.   ST. JOHN XXIII CHRISTMAS EVE FAMILY AND CHILDREN’S CHOIR 5:00 P.M. MASS We are expanding our singers at the 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass to invite and include either children or entire families that would like to sing as a choir for the special celebration of Christmas.   In collaboration with the diocesan effort to prevent child sexual abuse, our parish will be hosting a “Protecting God’s Children” awareness session on Saturday, November 8, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon, a continental breakfast at 8:15 a.m. The session will be held in the Parish Social Hall. Protecting God’s Children is a mandatory program for all who work or volunteer with children (in any capacity) in our diocese. Thanksgiving Day Mass

  Our Thursday, November 27, Thanksgiving Day Mass will be celebrated here at 9:00 a.m. Please put the time and place on your calendar and join your fellow parishioners in thanking God for all He has given us and our parish family. There will not be a Mass or Prayer Service on Friday, November 28, 2014. The office will also be closed that day.

  As Fr. Tony announced, he will be retiring and celebrating his last Mass as pastor this summer. Pastoral Council has established a transition team. This team is responsible for creating a Parish Profile, where your input will be sought through various means, including town hall meetings on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 9, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship space. Platinum Club Upcoming Activities

  Join the Fun: On Saturday, October 18, 2014, the Platinum Club is planning a Historical bus trip of Columbus. We will meet at COSI parking lot at 9:30 a.m. The tour takes 2 1/2 hours and the cost is $21.00. After the tour we will lunch at the oldest Coney hot dog shop in the city, Phillip’s Coney Island, 450 W Broad St. Bus seating is limited. To make reservations please send your check made payable to Saint John XXIII Parish. All reservations must be in by October 5. Remember, the Platinum Club is open to all parishioners 55 years and older.

Special Thanksgiving Project

  We have been invited to help with making knitted or crocheted dishcloths to be given at Thanksgiving time to families in need. Saint Francis Center in McArthur, Ohio, gives away 500 turkey dinners each year and would like to give a holiday gift dishcloth along with the turkeys. Please join your fellow parishioners on Saturday, October 11 from Noon to 2:00 p.m. in the lower level Social Hall. First ReCONCILIATION MEETING FOR PARENTS

  In preparation for the wonderful Sacrament of Reconciliation, all parents/guardians of children in the second grade or older, who have not received this sacrament, are expected to attend a meeting on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. At this meeting, workbooks for the children as well as a family guide for the workbook will be distributed to the parents. The Month of November

  The month of November is a traditional time to pray for the souls in Purgatory. During this month, the parish Death Register will be carried in procession and displayed during the Sunday liturgies. This book contains the names of all those whose funerals were celebrated at St. John XXIII. There will also be a display in the Gathering Space for you to write the names of deceased relatives and friends you would like remembered. These names will be included in the Prayer of the Faithful. ALL SAINTS DAY

  November 1, All Saints Day, falls on a Saturday this year. When a Holy Day of Obligation falls on a Saturday or Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted. Never-the-less, we will observe this great feast day with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1. Attendance is encouraged, but optional.
