Music for Advent Weekend Liturgies

  In an effort to move into a prayerful change for weekend liturgies during Advent, look for a few musical changes during Mass. The Gathering Song will be the same throughout Advent, with the verse changing each week to reflect an O Antiphon. “O Antiphons” are actually more than a thousand years old and have long been used at the very end of Advent in the liturgical prayer of the Church. Since the Second Vatican Council, they have also been slightly adapted for more uses. Christmas Choir 10:00 p.m. Mass

  Would you like to join the choir but can’t commit to a permanent commitment? If so, then Christmas Eve is the time for you! We are opening our enrollment for the 10:00 p.m. Mass for high school and adult singers. We are also in need of a percussionist to play either Djembe or Cajon. Additional members will join the regularly scheduled Tuesday night choir rehearsals, beginning November 24-December 22, from 7:45-9:00 p.m. Interested parishioners should contact Cindi Goldhaber at the parish office at 614-920-1563, or email at cgoldhaber@sjxxiiiparish.org.

  We are expanding our singers at the 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass to invite and include either children or entire families that would like to sing as a choir for the special celebration of Christmas. All families with children ages 7-14 are invited to participate. Rehearsals will be held on Thursday evenings, beginning December 3rd, with the final rehearsal on Wednesday, December 23. All rehearsals begin at 7:00 p.m. in the choir area of the church and will last about 45 minutes. Parents are invited to sing with us as well.

Advent & Christmas Season

   An Advent and Christmas Season Spiritual opportunity for all who would like to participate. It is a daily reflection for Advent and Christmas Season, and we also have Advent 2015 “A Season of Mercy” and Advent for kids 2015, “Waiting for Jesus is fun!” There is a small basket for a donation for the booklets.

  We are selling the St. Joseph Sunday Missals on the honor system for $5.00 per book. This is a great way to read the readings before Mass in preparation of the Good News. If you are unable to afford this please let us know.

  Our Annual Advent Concert is scheduled for Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to join us for an evening of entertainment with the Ohio Dominican University Chorus. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

In honor of the solemnity of Mary’s Immaculate Conception and the beginning of the Church’s Year of Mercy, Tuesday, December 8, St. John XXIII Parish will have a day of Eucharistic Adoration, beginning after the 9:00 a.m. Mass and ending at 6:00 p.m. in time for the 7:00 p.m. Mass. At least one person needs to be present at all times. There is a sign-up sheet in the Gathering Space. A priest will be available for Confession during this time.

Christmas Giving Tree

  The Christian Service and Social Concerns Commission is once again sponsoring the December “Giving Tree” for needy families in area. The names of the families are provided through Canal Winchester Human Services and the parish office. We will meet on Tuesday, November 24 at 6:00 p.m. If you can’t make it at that time and still would like to help, you can come a little later. We are going to try to do everything in one meeting. We have boxes to wrap, the tree to put up and tags to fill out. We will also have a sign-up sheet for tending the Giving Tree before and after each weekend Mass for Novembe...

Annual Christmas Raffle Tickets

  As this one of our fund raisers for the little extra things that we do here at the parish (the benches and flower pots in the piazzas, etc.). We appreciate everyone’s participation in our Annual Christmas Raffle and hope that it is a wonderful success. The winning tickets will be drawn after the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, November 22. Just drop off your completed tickets in the basket on the small table in the Gathering Space or stop in the parish office to drop them off. We appreciate your support.
