Donation envelopes for this collection are included in the February collection packet. The rate for the Catholic Times is $17.00 per year. Operation Rice Bowl

  Rice Bowls and Home Calendar Guides will be available on the table in the Gathering Space the weekend of February 22/23, 2014. The Rice Bowl collection will be on Holy Thursday with the funds going to the Catholic Relief Services to help our brothers and sisters who are in need. Prayer – Person at home prepares by reading the scripture prior to Sunday Mass, in addition to other personal prayer such as meditation, Rosary, spiritual readings, etc. 2.   As you know, our patron, Pope John XXIII, will be canonized on April 27. This will be an historic day for the Church and our parish. But how much do we know about the life of this good man? ASH WEDNESDAY MASS AND ECUMENICAL SERVICE

  On Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2014, our Mass and distribution of ashes will be at 8:00 a.m. The evening service will be an Ecumenical Service at 7:00 p.m. with the blessing and distribution of ashes as we have in past years. This year’s service will be hosted by Pope John XXIII. The collection in the morning will benefit J.O.I.N. and the evening collection will benefit local charities. What a wonderful way to begin the Lenten season by praying with our Christian brothers and sisters.

Life Size Bronze Sculpture Update

  The bronze sculpture of Saint John XXIII project is still marking progress. The construction of the Piazza was delayed last fall, but will be completed by the end of March. The sculptor in Italy is almost finished with the life size wax. We should see pictures in two weeks or so. Again, if we request any changes they will be completed and new pictures will follow; we have to be completely satisfied before we authorize the next stage of the work. When the life size wax is perfect, a mold is made around it, the wax is melted out, and the molten bronze is poured in. This is called a “lost wax process.” We...
