St. John XXIII parish, along with a number of others in the Diocese of Columbus, is pleased to announce that we will resume offering the Sacrament of Penance, starting May 1st. These will be by appointment only, so as to limit the number of people present at the parish, and to allow for safe social distancing. Therefore, walk-ins cannot be accommodated at this time. Initially, appointments will be available at St. John XXIII on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Please call 614-271-2005 for an appointment. When making an appointment, you do not need to give your name, simply the number of people you are making your appointments for.
Bishop Brennan asked us specifically to make sure that the confession appointments be kept short, no longer than 5 minutes, to allow for as many people as possible to go to confession without over burdening the priests that are able to assist in this very important ministry.
Before coming for your appointment, please make sure you are healthy enough to do so, that you don’t have any symptoms of COVID-19 (or any other contagious disease!), also, please wear a mask if you are able to. When you arrive at the Parish, please wait in your car until it is your time to go to confession. Volunteers will help in letting penitents know when the priest is available.
Confessions will not be heard in the confessional, but rather in the Narthex (Gathering Space). The priest will be sitting on one side of the screen, and to ensure that as few surfaces are touched as possible, the penitent will be asked to stand on the other side of the screen. There will be a cross taped on the ground indicating where you are to stand. An Act of Contrition and all of the other things you will need to say will be printed and hung on the penitent’s side of the screen.
