PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR) Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been decided that, at the recommendation of the Diocese, we will not be able to offer in-class instruction as we have in years past. This is for a variety of reasons, both practical and pastoral. The health of all of our parishioners is my highest priority in this matter; due to the size and layout of our classrooms, there would be no way to allow for social distancing. Furthermore, our parish population represents a very diverse number of public school districts, which means each child and volunteer would be coming into indirect contact with a vast number of additional people each weekend. Additionally, at this date, we have no real indication as to when we will return to the obligation to attend Holy Mass. As your pastor, I do not find it appropriate to ask you to send your children here to class if I am not asking you to make sure you attend Mass on the weekend. Instead of offering in-class instruction, I am strongly encouraging each family to work on your child’s religious education at home. I sent a letter to families with children ages Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. If you do not receive the letter, please call Regina in the parish office or email her for a copy. Our email information is popejohn@ sjxxiiiparish.org or 614-920-1563. For families with children who will be in Second or Eighth Grade, we will plan on having a few in-class sessions as part of their particular preparation for the sacraments they will receive. There will only be a few of these sessions, and will meet in the social hall rather than the classroom to assure greater social distance. These classes will be scheduled in the future, and you will receive another letter with more information
